Porcelain id

Porcelain id‘s maverick style and commanding voice have become a champion for authenticity. The Rwandan-born Hubert Tuyishime grew up in a small Belgian village. Here began a journey into the world of music at a young age, guided by perseverance. Just before their show in Utrecht, we recorded a cover of Ramses Shaffy’s Laat Me and their own Adam Coming Home.

“Porcelain id hit me like lightning.”

The Influences has filmed sessions with a lot of artists connected to Belmont over the years, like Courtney Marie Andrews, Adrian Crowley, Buck Meek, Broeder Dieleman, Chatham County Line, The Tallest Man On Earth, Hiss Golden Messenger, Phil Cook, Steve Wynn, Ben Weaver, Lilly Hiatt, Peter Broderick, William Tyler, Twain and Damien Jurado.

Everyone who has ever worked with Belmont Bookings’ owner Bas Flesseman knows he’s not only one of the nicest people you’ll meet in Dutch music, he’s also got great taste. So, it was purely because he started working with Porcelain id that I decided I had to go listen to their music. Asked about his opinion of Porcelain id, Flesseman says:

“Porcelain id hit me like lightning, the first time I saw them perform live, opening for Meskerem Mees in Amsterdam. Porcelain id (Hubert Tuyishime) is an artist that radiates pure energy, deep commitment to the song and connecting to the audience. It is a dream come true to work with such a talent. Porcelain id channels forces of energy that remind me easily of any of the greatest performers I have ever seen.”

A must-see live act for years to come.

You just moved to the big city, you end up at a party where you don’t know anyone and someone walks up to you and asks: “Hey, are you alone here?”. That is exactly the feeling that Porcelain id describes on their debut album Bibi:1, short for the Arabic pet name Habibi. Porcelain id is the pseudonym under which Hubert Tuyishime (they/them/their) has been unleashing unique songs since 2020.

The album Bibi:1 was released on Unday Records in February 2024. Porcelain id has emerged in recent years as one of the promising talents on the Belgian scene, won the renowned Sound Track competition, built a solid live reputation and was called ‘a folk singer for new times’ by national newspaper De Morgen. Judging by this session and the words of Bas Flesseman, Porcelain id will be a must-see live act for years to come.

Where, you ask? Well, you can find all their upcoming tour dates here.

Having listened to many of his lyrics, many times, it isn’t a surprise that talking to Irish songwriter Adrian Crowley and hearing him talk about his work and influences is an absolute joy. He is well-spoken and speaks in delicately formed sentences with a lot of the subtleties and delight that make his songs so…
