Siv Jakobsen - The Influences

‘Jolene is such a stunning piece of music – the lyric is incredible and really draws me into the atmosphere of the song. It makes me feel like I’m singing about myself.’ Siv Jakobsen recorded a stunning session in Amsterdam earlier this year.

A couple of weeks ago, The Norwegian songwriter Siv Jakobsen released her new album The Nordic Mellow. The album contains songs that match the extraordinary quality of her voice more than ever before.

I was lucky enough to get a second introduction to Jakobsen when I saw her support Bear’s Den in Utrecht last year. We had been in touch a couple of years ago, but schedules didn’t match up. Some things are worth waiting for though, so when we met in Amsterdam earlier this year, we filmed these two songs. Not only did she manage to subtly make Dolly Parton’s Jolene her own, she also played Like I Used To, off The Nordic Mellow.
