Every now and then I get asked the question: ‘You only record acoustic singer songwriters, don’t you?’ My answer: No, I don’t. There have been full band sessions since the start in 2008. Filming touring musicians solo has proven to be the most pragmatic over the years. But, put a full band in front of me and I’m happy. Imagine my joy when Ron Gallo turned up earlier this year.
In 2014, Gallo released the more roots-orientated LP Ronny. It features one of my favourite lines of the recent past in: ‘All I said was nothing to you’. Since then, a fire has seem to been lit and Gallo geared more towards the rock genre. Resulting in songs that are difficult to resist, and lyrics that still have the same wit. The almighty New West Records released Gallo’s new LP Heavy Meta, making him label mates of Kacy & Clayton, Justin Townes Earle, Daniel Romano, Andrew Combs, Anthony D’Amato, Nikki Lane, Robert Ellis, Shovels & Rope and many others.
The heat in Eindhoven didn’t stop them from putting on their overalls and record this steaming session at the Stroomhuis venue. Not only did they cover one of my very favourite songs by The Beatles, Helter Skelter, they also did a medley of Kill The Medicine Man and the brand new song going as Hallogallo.
Please enjoy this session with your volume turned all the way up.
